Our Grange sister Cora Irving is sharing a cassette tape titled MUSIC FOR THE GRANGE: Spencer Grange Singers / Spencer NY.
We did a word search and little can be found about the Spencer Grange at this time. The tape looks 1970's era. It plays great and was digitized.
The Spencer Grange Singers perform music for Grange rituals found in the Grange songbook. Offered here is "Sifting", a song used for the Exemplification of the Second Degree.
Enjoy! (For more free music, click the link MUSIC on the left)

Sifting (For Second Degree)
Words - Mrs. R.W. Hinkley Music - James L. Orr
Sift well the seed that you may sow, Sift clean-ly as you may, Sift out the bad and save the good, To scatter by the way; Sift all the books you chance to read, Sift thoroughly and well,And at the fi-nal summing up, This sifting work will tell.
Sift out fair vir-tue, love and truth, From envy, hate and strife, Write deeds of love and char-i-ty, On each fair page of life; Sift to the right, Sift to the left, Sift back-ward, too as well, Sift up and down and for-ward sift, And make your Sift-ing tell.
Sift ev-'ry word and act of yours, Sift ev-'ry thing complete, Sift all the dirt and chaff a-way, And save the sol-id wheat; Sift out the gold, re-fined and pure, From dross to sor-did pelf, And while you're sift-ing don't for-get, To always sift your-self
