Grange Experience Is Universal

South Coast Today, a publication based in Massachusetts, offers an interesting video of various Granges in the southeast corner of that state. It's a story that mirrors what's going in with local Granges in our part of the nation. The video also shows how our organization is finding relevance in the 21st Century through the fundamental Grange tenet of community service.

Columbia-Pacific National Heritage Area

Wahkiakum County is being considered for inclusion into a proposed Columbia-Pacific National Heritage Area. Grange members and others in the community are interested in what this could mean for the area. They have asked the Grange to provide a forum for discussion of the issue.

The Grays River Grange has invited people to offer a pro and con position. For the National Heritage Area are Carlton Appelo and Mike Swanson (Deep River, Naselle). Against are Jane & Robert P. Rose (Nema) along with others who signed on.

Pikkujoulu Concert In Deep River

Pikkujoulu means "Little Christmas" in Finnish. And that was the name of the concert held today at the historic Deep River Lutheran Church. The performance was sponsored by the Finnish American Folk Festival with proceeds benefitting the Deep River church.

Wilho Saari, May (Saari)Adair and Karen (Saari) Nelson played wonderful Kantele. 

The Finnish American Choir, under the Direction of Pastor Cliff Weimer, filled the church -and hearts- with inspirational music. For your pleasure, enjoy a Download of Hosianna from today's performance.

Christmas Party December 8th 6:30 - Grange Grants Funds To Local Community Efforts

The Grays River Grange Christmas party will be held on December 8, 6:30 p.m., at Johnson Park. Grays River Grange will furnish two turkeys for the potluck dinner. Guests are asked to provide side dishes and desserts. The Grays River Grange has a tradition of putting on an old fashion family Christmas party. If you have never attended, you should be prepared for a wonderful dinner, singing Christmas carols and all the good cheer with your friends and neighbors. Of course, a Christmas party would not be a Christmas party without a visit from Santa Claus! Bring a wrapped gift for your little one and Santa will pull it from his bag and hand it to them! This year guests are asked to bring canned food and non-perishable items to be given to Wahkiakum County food banks. 

At this year’s Christmas party, in the holiday spirit, the Grays River Grange will donate $1,500 divided among local charities, groups, and/or individuals. The Grange is supported by the community in many ways - especially during fair time where many a meal is purchased from the Grange food booth. And thank you to all the booth volunteers! In return we would like to confirm our support for our community by contributing $500 to the fair. To encourage local agriculture and opportunities for youth, $500 is granted to 4-H. Five $100 individual contributions go to the following; Johnson Park Kitchen improvements, a medical education trip or a local student, Wednesday Rosburg Senior Meal, Helping Hand Food Bank and Wahkiakum Food Bank.
