Naselle - Grays River Valley School District District 2
Mike Queener
My name is Mike Queener and I am running for the position of school board director representing the Rosburg/Grays River area of the Naselle School District.
I have lived in the Naselle School District for the past 19 years with 14 of those years living in Rosburg. I have been married to the same wonderful woman for 28 years. I have two sons and a daughter in-law that all graduated from Naselle High School. I have worked for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife for the past 21 years. I am currently stationed at the Grays River Salmon Hatchery. I am currently a job steward for my local union. I have been involved in collective bargaining contract negotiations.
I was appointed to the Naselle School Board to fill a vacant position in December 2000 and served until December of 2002. I am familiar with the board policies and procedures. I have volunteered at many activities for the school during the years my children were in attendance there. I was also an assistant cross country coach for one season.
After my youngest son graduated in 2005, my wife and I took some time off from school activities. When this position came open , I decided I would like to be involved in the workings of the school once again.
I want to be able to work with the other board members as a team that will work to make this district even better than it is now. We will be faced with the hiring of a permanent superintendent this year. Finding the right person for this job is important. With the state budget shortfalls and the high cost of operating the school, we will need a person who can manage our money efficiently. We also need someone who can maximize the knowledge and strengths of our teaching staff.
I would also like to work with the administration to offer more vocational classes at the middle school/ high school level. So many of the classes have been either dropped or were never available. We need to see more importance placed on the skills that students can obtain from vocational classes.
I look forward to representing the people of the Rosburg/ Grays River area with any and all concerns they may have about the school district.

Why Am I Running?
“To partner with the Naselle-Grays River Valley School District and a voice for students, parents, community members and educators affected by school board decisions.”
About Me…
“My husband Doug and I have lived in the Grays River area for the past four years. We have four children who attend the Naselle-Grays River Valley School: Orianne (12th), Jake (9th), Karianne (8th) and Cody (2nd). Our kids actively participate in youth groups, plays, concerts, outdoor activities, basketball, softball, baseball, volleyball and soccer activities.”
“Our family specifically moved to this area to be in the Naselle School because of what we heard about it. Over the school years, I have volunteered for preschool, pioneer clubs, and in classrooms. I have witnessed first hand the dedication and commitment ALL faculty have for the kids and the school”
